Before Jesus gave the apostles the great commission he provided them light ''I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life'' (John 8:12). The mission of the church There is only one body that can fulfill God's mission and purpose, and that is the body of Christ. ''If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.'' (2 Chronicles 7:14) Jesus uses his body (the church) to work the works until he comes back; this is why he gives and does so much for his body. For his body, Jesus: . Gave himself - Ephesians 5:25-27 . Gives gifts - Ephesians 4:8-16 . Gives power - Luke 10:19 ''No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him - but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit.''
